Former Indiana men's basketball coach Mike Davis is out of a job after going 1-31 at Detroit Mercy this season.
Davis, 63, had one winning season in six years at Detroit Mercy. The Titans started the season 0-26 before defeating IUPUI 81-66 at home on Feb. 14, leading to the loneliest court-storming in college basketball history.
The Titans' season came to an end on Tuesday with an 83-79 loss to Milwaukee in the Horizon League Tournament. Davis went 60-119 overall and 44-65 in conference play.
Davis' son, Antoine Davis, played for him at Detroit Mercy from 2018-23 and the 6-foot-1 guard ended his career as the No. 2 scorer in NCAA Division I men's history with 3,664 points. His 588 career three-pointers were an NCAA record.
"On behalf of our entire community, I want to thank Coach Davis and his family for their dedication, commitment and competitive spirit he brought to Detroit Mercy," Detroit Mercy athletic director Robert C. Vowels said in a press release. "We wish the best for him and his family as his coaching journey continues."
Detroit Mercy was the fourth Division I head-coaching stop in Davis' career. He coached at Indiana from 2000-06 and led the Hoosiers to a national runner-up finish in 2002. He coached at UAB from 2006-12, leading the Blazers to the NCAA Tournament in 2011.
Davis coached at Texas Southern for six seasons from 2012-18, making the NCAA Tournament four times and the NIT once. Davis has a career head-coaching record of 412-360.
