Michigan State basketball picked up a prediction to land Omaha transfer forward Frankie Fidler on Monday evening.

Is today going to be Frankie Fidler day? That’s what every Michigan State basketball fan woke up wondering when some insiders hinted at good news on the horizon and a potential “great day” to be a Spartan.

All has been quiet on the recruiting front and the only news to come out of East Lansing today were a couple of football transfers in the form of Sean Brown and Antonio Gates Jr. Mum has been the word on the basketball side of things.

But it feels like Tom Izzo is working behind the scenes.

In fact, the Michigan State head coach has done enough in the Fidler recruitment to pick up an On3 prediction on Monday afternoon to land the former Omaha star who averaged over 20 points per game last season.

Fidler is a 6-foot-7 forward from Omaha who was expected to pick Wisconsin where his good friend Chucky Hepburn played point guard. That was until Hepburn hit the transfer portal last week with rumors circulating about where he may land.

Once considered a Wisconsin lock, Fidler spent last weekend in East Lansing and liked what he saw. Enough, in fact, to cancel his decision the following day which he planned before his official visit to Michigan State. All signs pointed toward him being a Badger that Monday, but he opted to delay it and an announcement seems to be coming soon.

If we go simply by the tea leaves, momentum, and expert predictions, it looks like Michigan State basketball will get some good news.

Will this be the only portal addition for Michigan State this offseason? Let’s hope not. While a center should be the target, I wouldn’t be shocked if Trey Townsend was made a priority. I’ve been clamoring for a Tre Holloman/Jeremy Fears, Jaden Akins, Frankie Fidler, Townsend, and Xavier Booker lineup for the past couple of weeks.

It might just come to fruition.
