On Saturday night, Washington (OK) won their second consecutive OSSAA state title.

Led by superstar tight end Nate Roberts , the Warriors completed another dominant season, finishing 15-0 after a 41-24 victory over Millwood and Sooners’ wide receiver commit Jaden Nickens.

Roberts is one of OU’s priority targets in the 2025 class, as the local product is rated one of the top 102 prospects and top three tight ends in the nation, according to 247Sports.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound junior drew a crowd at the 2A semifinal against Jones (OK), with multiple Power 5 coaches in attendance to watch the 4-star recruit play.

A week later, Sooners’ co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley was at Wantland Stadium to see Roberts and the Warriors take on Nickens and the Falcons.

“It’s fantastic, second week in a row. That means a lot,” Roberts’ said when asked how he felt about Finley roaming the sidelines. “Seeing him there, it’s really cool.”

After committing to Notre Dame over the summer, Roberts decommitted and began to train with 2025 OU quarterback commit Kevin Sperry and wide receiver pledge Elijah Thomas.

With Roberts' junior season now complete, observers have begun to wonder if the star tight end could announce a decision soon.

“Now that we got that ring we’re just going to take as many visits as I can,” Roberts said after the state title game. “I’m going to send out my top schools pretty soon here but we’re in no rush on my commitment.”

Roberts’ visited Penn State, Ohio State and Oklahoma this fall, giving the Sooners stiff competition for the in-state tight end. If Finley and company are able to land a commitment from Roberts, however, he would be the highest-rated prospect in OU’s 2025 recruiting class.

Oklahoma may have found a new advantage in Roberts’ recruitment as well.

Promoting Finley, the team’s tight ends coach, to co-offensive coordinator after the departure of Jeff Lebby seems to have resonated well with the coveted prospect.

“It’s a big deal that he got moved up. I mean, I’m super excited for him,” Roberts said. “It does kind of change my mind, now that he has a say in throwing the ball to the tight end more. That definitely puts a smile on my face.”

If Finley is able to land a commitment from Roberts, it would mark two consecutive seasons that the Sooners have brought in a highly sought after 4-star tight end prospect.

Roberts would join Sperry, Thomas, Nickens, Gracen Harris, Trynae Washington and Owen Hollenbeck on offense in the 2025 recruiting class if does end up committing to Oklahoma.
