Reed confirmed on Monday he won't play in this week's BMW Championship because he is recovering in a Houston area hospital with bilateral pneumonia:

Reed has participated in three Ryder Cup competitions and is hoping to make the U.S. team again. The 31-year-old is currently No. 9 in the rankings, meaning he will miss out on earning automatic qualification by sitting in the top six. He will now hope to be one of the six selections made by U.S. captain Steve Stricker.
The BMW Championship gets underway at Caves Valley Golf Club in Baltimore on Thursday.
