The Mets have been in freefall this month, having lost nine of their last 10 to fall a season-worst five games below .500 at 31-36. Buck Showalter's club is in fourth place and nine and a half games behind the first-place Atlanta Braves (40-26) in the NL East.
According to Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network, the tooth was fastened to a clasp attached to the gold piece of jewelry. Marakovits reported that Cabrera told her before the series-opener that whatever his mom tells him to do, he's "gonna do," so he wore the necklace.
The 24-year-old made his MLB debut in 2022, posting six home runs and 19 RBI with a .247/.312/.429 slash line across 154 at-bats in 44 games. Cabrera's off to a rough start in 2023 with four home runs, 18 RBI and a .195/.243/.305 slash line through 164 at-bats covering 58 games.
