The Stuttgart Open welcomed many of the top WTA stars as they looked to start their clay season on a high. There were already some splendid matches that were played, but earlier today a huge upset was seen.
2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova pulled off a great victory to upset No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka. It was a hell of a quarter-final match, as both players went to and fro with the games to set up a brilliant match full of intensity.
Sabalenka took the first set quite comfortably; however, soon, the Czech returned to force the game into a third set. With hope still burning in the Wimbledon champion, she played one of her best tennis games in the last set to pull off a close victory.
Ultimately, Vondrousova upset the No. 2 seed in three sets: 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. This concluded another great quarter-final match, as the Czech stamped her place into the semi-finals. After losing her last four matches against Sabalenka, it was a heartening victory for Vondrousova.
